    Join the 3:16!

Terra, the cradle of humanity, is at risk!  We've conquered disease, the environment, the stars and even aging.  We live a life of idyllic peace and prosperity.  But out beyond the inky blackness of space lie countless worlds filled with horrific abominations that threaten our way of life, our lives, and our very existence as a species.

Do your part!  Join the elite 16th Brigade of the 3rd Army and defend humanity from alien threats.  Explore strange planets, increase your skills, learn to use and upgrade powerful technologies, advance in rank and return to Terra as a hero!

Do you have what it takes to save Humanity?

Find out in the prestigious 3:16!

Details3:16 is sort of a cross between Starship Troopers and Warhammer 40k.  It's a game that tells the story of military characters on military missions on strange planets fighting horrible aliens.  There is, as you might imagine, a fair amount of combat, but it moves quickly and the game allows for a great deal of creative input.  Anybody interested?

What system? You normally run combat light systems but those seem an odd fit for a military game.

Why, the 3:16 system, of course. Ethan Wink

This game is actually combat heavy, but it's crunch lite.  That is, there is plenty of combat, but it's not a tactical boardgame.  More interesting than counting bullets and calculating movement rates is what actually happens and how.  Character creation is quick and easy, so if you die (which is a very real possibility, though there are plenty of resources available to keep you alive) you can jump back into the game without missing a beat.

One element of the game that I think is fun is that after the mission, whoever gets the most "kills" levels up as a certainty.  Those who remain have to rely on chance.  (Though everyone gets some advancement, regardless).

Anyway, it seemed like it might be fun.

    Re: Join the 3:16!

    Ok, characters.

First come up with a name.  Just a last name is fine if you like.  Or maybe a nickname.

Next decide on a "reputation", like Hot Headed, Ice Cold, Crazy, Smartass, Honorable, Sleazy, Trustworthy, Loyal To A Fault, etc.  Make it something vivid and appropriate for a soldier.

Split 10 points between Fighting Ability (FA) and Non-Fighting Ability (NFA).  Neither can be lower than 2.  FA handles fighting, all kinds.  NFA handles everything else.

We'll finish up once we've got that much.

Hey, Armydeone, I just realized that 6 + 3 = 9.  You've still got one more point to put into either FA or NFA.

    Just waiting on Nova now.

    Re: Join the 3:16!

Well, then.  It looks like we've got a nice little squad going.  You two are welcome to join us, and welcome in general.

With four players it's going to be important to post regularly so things don't bog down.  I'll totally take over your guy if things get held up.

Just waiting on Nova now and we'll move on to the next step, "Rank".

    Armydeone, noted.

While we're waiting, I guess I can come up with a few more things, like:

KILLS (The number of kills you've made so far in your career)

    Tex: 30

    Doc: 14

    Monsignor: 45

    Hmm.  Bloody.

Ok, moving on.  Let's see how many people are still following this...

That's almost it.  Once everybody has chosen their "pick one" weapon, I'll explain a couple of things and we'll get started.
