Once again first!
So uh..... huh.

To call that transition a bit sudden is to call Tom Cruise a little crazy.

I guess you just didn't know where you were going in the storyline. Happens with Call of Athulu :)

I am looking forward to more of the dorks.  That reminds me, I have to work on my 4th edition campaign.

abrupt ending

Well the last 2 comics (the mostly writing with little images included in there) was going to be over multiple comics and there was going to be more closure, but due to the fact that Jason has less time to work on comics we had to put together a plan to make better use of his time so as to allow an indefinite number of comics to be put together.  Because of that I merged multiple comics into the short fiction and added descriptions (because its something I could do without Jason), then I put together today's comic as it was the final comic from that storyline.

You still had (via the fiction piece) how the world was saved from wormjira, you just didn't have much in the way of the after effects.  Though in typical D&D style, if a campaign ends the group doesn't necessarily spend a lot of time on what happens "after" defeating the "big boss"

I just cant wait to see how Ethan will break 4th Edition.

My guess : Ethan had made a pact with Chtulu (or whatever big bad evil demon) that allowed him to reveal hidden rules within the very books for past, present and future edition! (Really, you can expect something witty like this from Ethan)

Do I win a cookie?

Newness

And so that God-awful storyline is behind us. Although the real world aspects are still beneath the surface.

It's been so long, can you believe that the last "regular"ish update for this comic was all the way back in 10/9/2007? Tommorow will mark 10 months of very little happening.

Not counting that comic, we've had 16 strips since then. Approximately 2 a month. Ending with the complete destruction of the campaign using 2 massive walls of text comics. While I'm happy that it's over as it was a storyline I very much disliked, doing so to move the story won't work because the problem isn't the story not moving along but the pace of updates. Which hasn't gotten better in a long, long time.

It's jarring to have the people and gameworld evolution casually destroyed. So we are going to reboot to step one in the campaign trail? I dunno. At some point we may just have to admit that the comic has run it's course and it's time for the final arc. I don't think it can start all over again effectively, not after seven years of work.  It's hard to imagine the 4D world will never get to the depth that the previous one, that was just destroyed, did. Have a good, long look at what you're doing. Are you really going to be keeping this comic up another 7 years? Most webcomics don't put that kind of timeframe in, especially if they don't have a firm story in mind. It's still possible mind you but this is not a comic that looks like it's in the process of renewal. Maybe if you got a firm ending in mind that would go better. I just don't see a massive renewal of this comic by this point.

I'd rather have a good ending then have it peter out and just stop someday which is what appears to be happening. Don't go out with a whimper please.
